Prayer Is More Than a Genie in a Bottle
“Prayer is not a logical process, but a spirit-filled confidence.” — Charles Spurgeon
It’s easy to treat prayer like rubbing a lamp: say the right words, ask for what we want, and hope God grants our wishes. But prayer was never meant to be a spiritual vending machine or a genie in a bottle.
Prayer is relationship.
When Matthew 6:9 records Jesus teaching us to pray, He begins with “Our Father.” That’s not the language of a customer placing an order; that’s the language of a child coming close. A loving Father doesn’t just hand out requests; He listens, guides, corrects, comforts, and sometimes says “wait” or “no” for our good.
In Philippians 4:6–7 we’re told to bring everything to God in prayer, and the promise isn’t that we’ll get everything we ask for; it’s that we’ll receive His peace. The greatest gift of prayer isn’t always changed circumstances, but changed hearts.
Prayer aligns us with God’s will. It shapes our desires. It builds trust. It reminds us that we are not in control; but He is, and He is good.
So today, don’t approach God as a genie to command. Come as a child to a Father. Sit. Listen. Speak honestly. And trust that even when the answer isn’t what you hoped for, His presence is more than enough.
Team Wade is praying for you, loves you and there's nothing you can do about it. ❤️👊
