Time Alone with Jesus
Get alone with Jesus, and he will comfort your hearts and restore your weary souls.” — Charles Spurgeon
And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” — Matthew 14:23 NKJV
It would only make sense that of all people who understood the value of prayer and spent time alone with His Father, Jesus would be the one to teach us—by both example and authority—how to pray.
On a daily basis, and multiple times a day, I pray to be more like Jesus. I believe, based on the Word of God, that Spurgeon is correct: without alone time with God, we set ourselves up for failure. Without it:
* Anxiety remains
* Prayers go unanswered
* Questions remain unresolved
* Sickness goes unhealed
* Enemies go unconquered
* Marriages remain broken
* Addictions remain our masters
* Weary souls remain weary
* Comfort remains a dream rather than reality
You might ask, “Why is time alone with God so hard to find?”
Because it is the devil's plan to keep us distracted—even with good things—but not the main thing.
Father, Grant us today the wisdom to discern the essentials from the non-essentials. Not all non-essentials are bad, but they are not essential. Help us understand that the most essential thing in life is relationship with Your Son Jesus and time alone with You. In Your Word and in prayer is where we find peace, comfort, and rest for our weary souls.
In Jesus’ name.
