When It Comes to Prayer, Be Honest

“Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” — Psalm 62:8 (NKJV)

When it comes to prayer, God gives us permission to be honest. We don’t have to pretend that everything is okay when it isn’t. We can bring our fears, questions, disappointments, struggles, and even our doubts before Him.

God already knows what is in our hearts, so honesty doesn’t surprise Him. In fact, honest prayer opens the door to deeper intimacy with Him. The Psalms are filled with people crying out to God, asking hard questions, and expressing genuine emotion—yet they continued to trust Him.

Prayer isn’t about saying the perfect words; it’s about bringing your real heart to a real God. Tell Him where it hurts. Tell Him what you don’t understand. Tell Him what you need. Then, surrender it into His hands.

Today’s Challenge

Stop trying to impress God with your prayers. Just talk to Him. Be honest, be humble, and be willing to listen.

Prayer

Lord, help me to come before You honestly. Give me courage to pour out my heart, faith to trust You with what I cannot understand, and humility to listen for Your voice. Draw me closer to You through honest prayer. In Jesus’ name, amen.
