“Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God. Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.” - ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭1-2, ‭10‬ (NLT)

Overlooked, Underfollowed Verses in the Bible

The church in Ephesus received some famous (or infamous) instructions. Ephesians 5:22 is often quoted, taught, and preached. That verse begins a 54-word section instructing women to submit to their husbands. But verse 21, where Paul instructs us to mutually submit to each other, is often overlooked. Only in light of that command do the 54 words to women make sense, followed immediately by 180 words instructing men on how they are to die to themselves in order to love their wives. We men are not the masters—Christ is. We are called to be sacrificial servants.

Even if you’re not married, embrace this truth before you begin a covenant relationship with the woman God has called you to serve.
