Saved to Obey
“We are not saved by obedience, for obedience is the result of salvation. We are saved by faith because faith leads us to obey.” — Charles Spurgeon
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” — Ephesians 2:8–9 NKJV
A works-based salvation not only leaves room for us to take the credit, but it also brings doom when we feel we haven’t done enough to satisfy the Creator. Both are dangerously wrong, and without a doubt it is Satan’s ploy to keep us busy doing for the Father rather than resting in what has already been done through the Father by the Son.
Just staying in the Word of God brings peace—and with that peace, a desire to serve Jesus. Not to earn salvation, but because of the salvation that was so freely given.
