Get Out of the Boat

“Then Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’ So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.” — Matthew 14:28–29 (NKJV)

It’s impossible to walk on water while staying in the boat. Peter experienced the miraculous only after he stepped out in faith at Jesus’ command. The boat represented comfort, safety, and what was familiar. The water represented trust, risk, and total dependence on Christ.

Many believers pray for God to do something extraordinary, yet hesitate when He calls them to take the first step. Faith is not merely believing God can—it is obeying when He says, “Come.” Miracles often begin where comfort ends.

Yes, Peter eventually took his eyes off Jesus and began to sink, but even then, Jesus reached out and lifted him up. The lesson is not that our faith must be perfect, but that our focus must remain on Christ.

If you want to see God move in ways you’ve never experienced before, you may have to leave the security of the boat. Trust His voice more than your fears. The safest place is wherever Jesus calls you to be.

Heavenly Father, give me the courage to step out in faith whenever You call. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus and not on the storms around me. Teach me to trust You beyond my comfort zone, knowing that You are faithful to sustain me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
