It’s a Choice
When negativity shows up, it often feels automatic—but what we dwell on is still a choice. Thoughts come and go, yet we decide which ones we hold onto. A devotional way to see this is remembering that faith invites us to redirect our focus; not to pretend problems don’t exist, but to refuse to let them define everything.
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right… think about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)
That verse isn’t about forced positivity; it’s about intentional attention. When you choose gratitude over complaint, hope over fear, or patience over frustration, you’re training your mind toward life instead of defeat. Negative thoughts may knock, but you don’t have to give them a chair at the table.
God, help me notice when my thinking turns negative. Give me the strength to choose what is true and hopeful. Teach me to replace worry with trust and complaints with gratitude. Guide my mind so my thoughts reflect Your peace. Amen.
