Being the Church
"And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had, all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved."—Acts 2:44, 47 (NLT)
In healthy churches, God’s Word is preached, God’s people are praying, God’s presence is felt, God’s Spirit is working, God’s love is flowing, God’s power is evident, God’s kingdom is advancing, and God’s children are walking in love, joy, grace, and peace.
That’s exactly what happened in Acts when the church functioned together. It should humble us that any church, if not careful, can lose focus, start coasting in a comfort zone, and drift into apathy or division. We must keep our eyes on Jesus. We must rely on the Spirit of God. We must prioritize prayer and the Word.
In the first church, they did not bail at the first sign of problems—they bonded. Jesus never ran from broken people; He ran to them, loved them, and served them.
Let’s continue to be the Church!
