Stay Spiritually Awake

“You will never catch the devil asleep; let not the devil catch you asleep.” — Charles Spurgeon

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” - 1 Peter 5:8

The devil is relentless. He doesn't rest, he doesn't take breaks, and he certainly doesn’t wait until we’re ready to fight. His tactics are subtle but destructive. He thrives when we are spiritually lazy, unfocused, or distracted. This is why Scripture urges us to be alert and sober-minded. We are in a very real spiritual battle, and the enemy is constantly seeking whom he may devour. That’s not a metaphor...it’s a warning.

Spiritual apathy is dangerous. A prayerless life, an unread Bible, a casual attitude toward holiness. All of these are open doors to the enemy. But when we are alert, anchored in God’s Word, and walking closely with Christ in prayer and obedience, we are not easy targets.

Father, awaken our spirits today. Help us to live alert, grounded in truth, sensitive to your voice, and clothed in the armor of God. May we not be found sleeping when the battle is raging.

In Jesus’ name.
