“Unlike those other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices every day. They did this for their own sins first and then for the sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when he offered himself as the sacrifice for the people’s sins. The law appointed high priests who were limited by human weakness. But after the law was given, God appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been made the perfect High Priest forever.” - Hebrews 7:27-28 NLT
NEW COVENANT, NEW PRIEST, NEW HOPE
Under the old covenant, God’s people repeatedly drew near, then fell away. The priests were busy sacrificing to atone for so much sin. Fortunately for us, Jesus is our High Priest, who chose to sacrifice himself to atone for the sins of us all. The sinless one died on a cross so that anyone believing in him would be made right with God. He is our High Priest forever, and he guarantees our new arrangement with God, which brings us new hope. Thank God for being born again into the new covenant.
