“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”“O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!”The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Then the Lord reached out and touched my mouth and said, “Look, I have put my words in your mouth!”—Jeremiah 1:5-9 (NLT)
JEREMIAH’S CALLING AND OUR CALLING
God knows us before our birth. He knows who we’re going to be even before we are anything. He calls us to a life we cannot know without Him, a life that is so wonderful, it is completely beyond our understanding. It is an awesome life of peace and holiness. He wants to give us a life of contentment, free from worry. Like Jeremiah, we often make excuses to God: “You’ve got the wrong guy; I don’t have what it takes.” But God, who created us, has a purpose and a plan. And He knows best.
Here am I, Lord, send me!
