The Better Choice

“Sitting silently at the feet of Jesus is of more worth than all the clatter of Martha's dishes.” — Charles Spurgeon

The story of Mary and Martha in Luke 10 reminds us of the difference between doing for Jesus and being with Him. As Jesus visits their home, Martha becomes overwhelmed with preparations while Mary chooses to sit at His feet, listening to His words. Frustrated, Martha complains to Jesus, but He gently responds, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

One sister is consumed by service. The other is content in stillness. One is distracted by doing. The other is devoted to being.

Today, we have the same choice. Will we rush through our day, or will we pause to rest in the presence of our Savior? May we choose what is better. May we choose Him.
