The Greatest Reason to Worship

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” - 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV

If God never did anything else for us, He would still deserve our continual praise for the rest of our lives because of what Jesus did on the cross. God's Son died for us. That alone is the greatest reason to worship.

Unfortunately, we often forget the cruel details of the agonizing sacrifice made on our behalf. The Son of God was stripped naked, beaten until almost unrecognizable, whipped, scorned, mocked, crowned with thorns, and spit on. Then He was forced to drag a heavy cross up a hill, where He was nailed to it and left to die a slow, excruciating death by crucifixion while hecklers shouted insults, mocking His pain and challenging His claim to be God.

As Jesus took on all of mankind's sin and guilt, God looked away from the ugliness of sin, and Jesus cried out in desperation, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Jesus could have saved Himself, but then He could not have saved us.

Why did God allow and endure such evil? So we could be spared from eternity in hell and share in His glory forever. Never again should we wonder what we have to be thankful for.
